A Seat at the table: At the Purpose Cafe

Walking into a crowded cafe can feel overwhelming. You look around, and every table seems full. Others are already deep in their groove, sipping their drinks, laughing, and working on their unique gifts. It is easy to look at the crowded room of life and ask, "God, is there a seat left for me? Did I miss my chance?"

Comparison tells us that space is limited. But God’s kingdom does not run out of space. When the timing is right, He opens up the perfect spot—a comfortable chair with a view of everything you have walked through to get here. You sit down, realizing you didn't miss out after all. You are exactly where you are meant to be.

Leaving an Open Chair.

The true test of our purpose happens after we get our seat. It is tempting to pull the chair in close, protect our space, and finally relax. But a seat in God’s kingdom is never meant for one person.

As you sit down with your cup of chai, you look at the empty seat across from you. You invite Jesus to occupy your space first. Then, you write a note for the next weary traveler who walks through the door: "Open. You are welcome to sit here."

Our calling is not just about finding our own success. It is about creating safety for others. Your breakthrough is meant to be someone else's invitation. By pulling out a chair, you offer a cup of hope to someone who is still standing in the aisle, wondering if they belong.

Reflection of Hope.

• Where in your life are you still waiting for a "seat to open up," and how can you trust God's timing today?

• Look at the spaces you already occupy (your home, job, or friendships). How can you intentionally make an empty seat available for someone else?

A Prayer of Hope.

Dear Jesus, thank You for always making room for me at Your table. Forgive me for the times I compare my journey to others or fear that space is running out. Help me to trust Your timing. When You bless me with a place of purpose, remind me to pull out a chair for the next person. Let my life be a place of welcome, warmth, and hope for someone who needs it today. Amen.
